1ST MEETING COPENHAGEN APRIL 2008
In its first meeting - held in Copenhagen on April 16, 2008 - the Africa Commission agreed on an ambitious working programme, which included five thematic workshops and seminars in various countries in Africa.
The Commission decided to focus on young people, employment and economic growth. The absence of job opportunities for young people is a key problem in the continent of Africa, but is not reflected in the current international focus. It is the ambition of the Commission to present new, innovative strategies about how to reach this goal. The proposals must be very operational so that they can be applied immediately. The Commission will also focus on women’s role in development, climate change and education.
The Commission agreed on an ambitious working programme, which included the staging of five thematic workshops and seminars in various countries in Africa prior to the second meeting of the Commission.
