Why was the Africa Commission started? The Danish Government is actively seeking to put economic growth and employment in Africa higher on the international agenda. What are the aims of the Africa Commission? To present new and creative strategies to re-vitalize and strengthen international development cooperation with Africa. How is the Africa Commission organised? The Commission will consist of international members drawn from Heads of States and Governments, politicians, experts, business people and representatives from international and regional organizations as well as the academic world. When will the commission meet? The Commission will have three main meetings: the first took place in Copenhagen on 16th of April 2008, the second was held in Addis Ababa on 21st of November 2008 and the final meeting will take place in Copenhagen in May 2009. How can I contribute? In between the main meetings, the Commission will organize a number of thematic conferences and workshops in Africa. Here the grass roots, youth representatives, the NGO’s, representatives from civil society will meet to discuss specific challenges in creating a prosperous future for the youth of Africa. Does the Africa Commission support activities? No. The Africa Commission does not fund projects. What are The Millennium Development Goals? In 2000 the Millennium Declaration was adopted by the 191 member states of the United Nations in an unprecedented global consensus. It is a call to cut extreme poverty in half by 2015. To make the commitments more manageable 8 Millennium Development Goals (MDG) were selected, and a time limit for reaching the goals was set to no later than 2015 in order to underline the urgency of the commitments.
